I recently visited K-BBQ for the first time since the restaurant changed ownership. It’s located in the same shopping center, so I had been curious to see whether anything had changed.
Since I went for a late lunch, the restaurant was very quiet. There were only two customers in the entire place, including me.
For lunch, I ordered the Naengmyeon and Bulgogi Set for $25.
At first, $25 seemed a little expensive for lunch, but once the food arrived, I felt the portion size made the price reasonable.
The naengmyeon wasn’t a small side portion—it was a full-size bowl, and it tasted very good. The set also came with six pieces of bone-in bulgogi, which was more meat than I expected. The seasoning was excellent, and the meat was flavorful and satisfying.
One thing to know is that the set does not come with rice. Personally, I think bulgogi is even better with some steamed rice, so I would recommend ordering a bowl of rice on the side.
As you would expect from a Korean restaurant, the meal also came with six small banchan side dishes. The portions were small, but they added some nice variety and were perfect for refreshing your palate between bites.
I had heard for quite some time that K-BBQ had a good reputation among both Korean and Japanese customers. After finally trying it myself, I can understand why. The food was tasty, the portions were generous, and overall I was very satisfied.
K-BBQ is definitely a Korean restaurant I would recommend.
American Restaurant Prices Still Surprise Me
Just as a side note, I looked at the dinner menu and noticed that one order of boneless galbi was $45.
I returned from Japan only about two weeks ago, so maybe it isn’t fair to compare restaurant prices in Japan and the U.S.—but it’s difficult not to.
While I was in Japan, seven of us went to a yakiniku restaurant called Hakutousan in Toyota City. We ate until everyone was completely full, and the total bill was only about ¥20,000.
Then I come back to the U.S. and see one order of galbi for $45.
Of course, it’s not an exact comparison, but moments like this really remind me just how expensive dining out in America has become.
Still, considering the generous portions and the quality of the food, I felt that $25 for my lunch at K-BBQ was reasonable, and I left the restaurant completely satisfied.
