私は数年前からBerluti にハマっている。
グッチやルイ・ヴィトンのように誰もが知っているブランドではないが、私はベルルッティ特有の「カリグラフィー」が好きで、バッグや財布などを色々購入している。
簡単にベルルッティを紹介すると、1895年創業のフランスの高級レザーブランド。
最大の特徴は、職人が手作業で色を重ねる「パティーヌ」と呼ばれる独特の革の風合いだ。
さらに、バッグや財布などに刻まれる筆記体デザイン「カリグラフィー」もベルルッティを象徴する特徴。
派手なロゴではなく、上品さと大人の色気を感じさせるブランドとして人気がある。
今回購入したトートバッグも、実際に手に取ると革の質感や色の深みが素晴らしく、シンプルながら存在感がある。
使い込むほどに味が出てくるのもベルルッティならではの魅力だと思う。
ただ、私が4年ほど毎日使っているトートバッグは、持ち手の内側の革が半年ほどで剥がれてきてしまう。
一度日本で修理に出したが、修理代は約3万円、期間も3か月ほどかかった。それでも、また半年ほどで同じ部分が剥がれてきた。
革が非常に繊細なため、傷や水に弱く、定期的なメンテナンスが必要なのはベルルッティの欠点かもしれない。
それでも、この独特の雰囲気や経年変化の魅力があり、つい使い続けたくなるブランドだ。
I’ve been into Berluti for several years now.
It may not be as widely recognized as brands like Gucci or Louis Vuitton, but I personally love Berluti’s signature “Calligraphy” design and have purchased various bags and wallets over the years.
To briefly introduce Berluti, it is a French luxury leather brand founded in 1895.
Its biggest characteristic is the unique leather finish known as “Patina,” created by craftsmen who hand-layer colors onto the leather.
Another iconic feature of Berluti is the “Calligraphy” script design engraved on bags and wallets.
Rather than flashy logos, the brand is known for its elegance and sophisticated masculine style.
The tote bag I purchased also has an incredible leather texture and depth of color when seen in person.
Despite its simple design, it has a strong presence, and I feel the leather develops more character the longer it is used — something uniquely Berluti.
However, the tote bag I’ve carried almost every day for the past four years has had an issue where the leather on the inside of the handles starts peeling after about six months.
I once sent it to Japan for repair, which cost around ¥30,000 and took nearly three months. Even so, the same area started peeling again after another six months.
Because the leather is extremely delicate, it is vulnerable to scratches and water, and requires regular maintenance — which may be one of Berluti’s downsides.
Still, its unique atmosphere and the beauty of how the leather ages make it a brand I can’t help but continue using.
